Recover a Deleted VisPlan Plan
When a VisPlan plan is permanently deleted from Microsoft Teams, the underlying data—such as the SharePoint lists used by VisPlan—is also deleted. Since Microsoft Teams stores its data in connected SharePoint sites, each team has a corresponding SharePoint site where these lists reside.
Deleted lists are moved to the SharePoint site’s recycle bin, where they remain for 90 days. During this time, any team member can restore them. After 90 days, the items are moved to the second-stage recycle bin, which is only accessible by a SharePoint or Microsoft 365 administrator. From there, they can be recovered for an additional 90 days, giving a total of 180 days before permanent deletion.
How to Find and Restore the Deleted VisPlan Plan:
- In Microsoft Teams, go to the Files tab of the relevant channel.
- Click the three dots (…) in the top-right corner.
- Select Open in SharePoint — this opens the SharePoint site connected to the team.
- In the SharePoint site, go to the Recycle Bin (left-hand navigation).
- To quickly locate and restore the deleted lists and the VisPlan Plans entry, sort the recycle bin by deletion date.
This makes it easier to identify and recover all related items at once. - If the items are not found, contact your SharePoint or Microsoft 365 admin to check the second-stage recycle bin.
Reconnecting the Restored Plan in Teams:
- Return to the team and channel in Microsoft Teams.
- Click the “+” (Add a tab) button.
- Select VisPlan from the list of apps.
- Choose “Use existing plan” and select the restored plan.
This will reattach the plan to the channel and make it visible again in both Teams and the VisPlan personal app.
