How to Use Tags in VisPlan for Better Organization

Tags in VisPlan work like labels in Microsoft Planner. They help you highlight, group, and filter items such as tasks, risks, or priorities. With up to 25 color-coded tags available, you can customize them to fit your planning needs.

What Are Tags?

Tags are color-coded labels that can be added to most objects and actions in VisPlan. They make it easy to:

  • Highlight key items like high-risk tasks or urgent priorities.
  • Group related items for quick reference.
  • Filter and search for specific categories during planning.

Using Tags in Your Plan

Tags can be applied to most objects and actions in VisPlan. Once added, they provide several benefits:

  • Visual Highlights: Color-coded tags make important items stand out.
  • Filtering: Use the filter option to show only items with specific tags.
  • List View: Tags appear as a column in list view, making it easy to search or filter by tag.

How to Add a Tag to an Item

To add a tag to an object in VisPlan:

  1. Click on the object.
  2. In the sidebar, click the three vertical dots (options menu) for that object.
  3. Select Tags.
  4. Choose the color you want to apply.

Managing Tags

You can define the names of each tag in the plan settings:

  1. Open the Menu and select Plan Settings.
  2. Click Manage Tags.
  3. Edit the names for any of the available colors.

If your plan is connected to Microsoft Planner, tag names will sync automatically with Planner labels.

Default and Extended Tags

By default, VisPlan provides 6 basic tags. If you need more flexibility, you can enable all 25 tags in the plan settings.

Best Practices

  • Use tags consistently for categories like Risk, Priority, or Status.
  • Keep tag names clear and short for easy recognition.
  • Combine tags with filters during meetings to focus on critical items quickly.
